The glass industry demands some of the highest quality refractory materials due to the aggressive nature of molten glass and continuous operation.
Critical Areas in Glass Furnaces
1. Melting Tank
The bottom and sidewalls where glass is melted. AZS (Alumina-Zirconia-Silica) fused cast blocks are the standard here due to their resistance to glass corrosion.
2. Crown (Superstructure)
The roof of the furnace. High-quality Silica bricks are used because they can withstand alkaline vapors and maintain structural integrity.
3. Regenerators
Chequers in regenerators store heat. Magnesia and basic bricks are often used here, chosen for their thermal capacity and resistance to batch carryover.
